I started looking for a more capable camp chopper after a very wet and cold scout camp this spring. I have been using a Fiskars hatchet from home depot for the last several years and it has performed well. When the snow started falling this past spring I realized I should get something a bit bigger.
After much reading and handling many axes at hardware stores I arrived at the Council Tool Velvicut boys axe. It seemed to have the feature set I was looking for. The price tag was steep but I don't anticipate having to buy another axe any time soon. It arrived today, and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. I have another coat or two of linseed to apply and the edge needs to be touched up, but other than that it is ready for work!
