Venadium?

I recently saw a list of ssteels compared to each other and was looking at the difference between 154cm and VG-10 (Looking at buying a Benchmade 551 or Spyderco Delica 4, decided I will go with the Bench and awaiting confermation, ANYWAY) I saw that VG-10 has VENADIUM. What does this do to the steel? Make it more flexible, holds an edge better? Anyone know?

Thanks

Simply put yes. The addition of vanadium to steel increases its strength, hardness, and high temperature performance (not useful for knives but useful for tool steels).

Hope it helps.

I believe vanadium is also a carbide former. Good stuff to have in a blade. BG-42 is similar to ATS-34, only with more vanadium, for instance.

Vanadium is a very strong carbide former and in a steel with large amounts such as S30V it makes a blade more difficult to sharpen but the edge is very wear resistant . In small amounts , .30 % it is a grain refiner.

Mete, pardon me if I kibitz, but by grain refiner I believe you mean that small amounts of vanadium cause the steel to have a finer grain structure, which would improve the general properties of the steel.

Woop on me if I mis-spoke.
