Does anybody have pics of those old vending machine knives? I think the fact that at one point they had them in vending machines is awesome.

The only ones I ever remember seeing over here were ones that came out of the 'Elephant Machines' in seaside arcades, which were very old-fashioned even when I was a kid. You put in a coin, and a small replica indian elephant went round into the back of the machine, and then re-appeared with a small box which was tipped down a chute. The 'prizes' were small cheap novelty items, but sometimes contained small knives made by Richards of Sheffield, or in the Far East, this kind of thing.

Cool, I'd love that to be my prize from a vending machine.

There are at least a couple of vintage seaside arcades where they still have the machines, but of course the old prizes ran out years ago unfortunately. They were something of a tradition in my family on a day-trip to the coast, at the end of the day we'd go to the elephant machine and get something to take home for mum or grandma. As well as the small folders there were also small fruit/butter knives :)
