Hey guys,

I’m thinking about getting a Naniwa Diamond 3000 Stone for finishing after my Venev 800 or 1200 OCB. For those of you who own both does the 3000 from Naniwa leave a finer finish than the Venev stones? Or is it more or less a wash?

The 3k Naniwa will be a much finer finish.

Thanks man that’s good to hear. Or maybe not cause I’ll probably have to spend 200€ on that bad boy in the future haha

Interesting. Do you know the mechanism by which the 3000 Naniwa stone produces a much finer finish than a resin-bond stone with a similarly hard abrasive that should be roughly J4000? I know cushioned abrasives are one way, hence my question.

Surface roughness is a huge topic, I feel people get tunnel vision on grit conversations when the other variables such as bond type and consistency play a huge role. I've made countless videos with the 3k Naniwa diamond, it makes a nice bright finish better than the other stones I've used.

I agree, and that's why I am trying to improve my understanding.

Small update: of course I bought the 3000 from Naniwa... I’m beginning to think I got more of a stone problem than just a knife problem :D

anyway it does leave a finer finish. Now I’m intrigued by the 800 since Deadbox Hero likes it so much.

Still, the Venev are amazing bang for your buck.
