what are your thoughts on which set of cbn stones to buy venev or paltova. all opinions welcome

I have bought a single Venev "150х25х7 mm 50/40 CBN MS-1 100%" (copper-lead bond/compound) for testing.

My stone had pretty decent geometry out of the box, no complains so far. It allows to form the bevel fast enough, I see no real need to use 100/80 or even more rough stones. I'm still on the fence, considering a purchase of 20/14. But I definitely prefer to finish the edge with Boride stones (1200 grit max).

The poltava stones will give you a much better edc edge that is toothy and the edge will last longer, the venev resin stones are better at giving a more refined edge for push cutting and for cutting super steels and pm steels that you are wanting to mirror polish.

If you want a great edge get the 120 400 2K poltava cbn stones and get some gunny strops and gunny juice from gritomatic and use 6 and 3 micron gunny juice after the 2K poltava stone,I use 3 micron myself personally after the 2K stone.

The 120 400 2K combo will give you a really sharp factory type edge.

Wait, are you saying the diamond resin will do a better job cutting super steels than cbn?

Don't get fixated on diamond versus cBN. He's talking about the difference in bonding (resin vs metallic )

The resin bonding is helping with further polishing the bevel but at a cost to cutting speed and loading.
