......... it what's for dinner.... :)

... just back from a long weekend in the bush chasing deer and hogs. Almost unbelievably (for me) this was the ONLY picture I took. In fairness I was actually ill for much of the time and just getting around the mountains in the heat (Feb is our hottest month here generally - and this was no exception) was a task. The hunting was a bit ordinary (I put it down to the heat) and this was one of only five does I shot as a cull/for meat (the DPI here shot nearly 600 off an adjoining property late last year so numbers are way down). I did also MISS :grumpy: a nice big boar !!!

Just to add to my pain it appears that a clutch of brown snake eggs hatched under the hut we were staying in and the buggers were slithering around outside with WAY too much regularity !!!!!

*muttering to self* ... and i'm freezing my *** off up here.

Looks tasty anyway:D

I concur..... It went down as low as -40c last weekend. Texting to my old friend who lives in Gerringong, NSW. He sent me a picture of him and one of his sons, playing at a local oval. Says temps were at 31c..... Mmmmf.... Much muttering and cursing! ;)

Freezing rain, yesterday....gotta head out and scrape ice off the cars.......

I just cooked my last back strap a week or so ago, enjoy. Hope you're feeling better.

Get well soon Andy, a good tenderloin dinner may put you in better spirits at least. Nothing beats a good cut of venison in my opinion. Enjoy!

Hmmm. Backstrap. Looks good.

Like the coats those deer have in Australia. Looks somewhat soft/velvety.

Andy, my favorite venison treatment is to marinate it for a bit in soy and ginger and then do the medallions in a very hot pan with butter. I like the look of those onions. Will try next time.

Brown snakes! Damn man, be careful... Deadly buggers. Now, browned venison is a different story! OK, I'm hungry!

mmmm... always love your threads Andy..

Yup :thumbup::thumbup:...... I'm telling you, Andy, you need a mongoose to rid yourself of those snakes ..... Get well soon mate!

GROGIMUS..... That looks great. I'm sure Andy could use a piece or 2..

Yes the temps were in the Mid to high 30s (Celsius) all weekend.... the house held the heat as well so there was not much respite even when it dropped off nicely outside of a night, I really need a hammock to sling between the veranda posts at this time of year so I am able to enjoy the cool evening AND be up off the ground away from things that slither...!!

The deer hide/hair is actually quite course and rough to touch, but they are very pretty critters !!!! That plant to the right of the deer is a stinging nettle and yes I also managed to stick my hand right in it as I was working on her after the pic !!!!

Roll on the cooler weather...!!!! I will be back up there for a week next month, hopefully the temps will have well dropped by then !!! Walking through thigh high tussock grass (not being able to see where your feel legs are going, nor what is slither away from/around you) is also a bit of a mental hurdle at times. Best just to stomp along at those times and remind one's self that "the snake is more afraid of you than you are of it" .... !!!! Ummmm yep.... that's it !!!!

mmmmmmmm yes.... backstraps.... :) :)

Great, it has been my constant companion hunting here since it's release what, three years ago now ? I love it in this role !!!

Good Work Andy (Helping with the cull, triumphing over the heat, avoiding Browns, Keeping that B4LE busy and the memories)

Hope your feeling better.
