hey guys,

I use the veritas green compound in my hard felt buffing wheel which works wonders on anything I can lay my hands on lol.
Just wondering tho if you guys know what takes the residue off the blades the easiest thats non toxic and whithout too much smell. Ive tried metholated spirits and kerosene which work ok but Id rather not use that on kitchen knives.
Plain detergent or soap doesnt really seem to do the trick.

thanks
Dan

Just follow up the cleaning with spirits or kerosene with a good detergent cleaning. There aren't many effective solvents that are non-toxic and don't smell, so the double cleaning becomes almost a necessity.

Try to rub it of with mineral oil. It helps getting the stuff onto my strop, maybe it also helps getting it off the blade?

Some compounds are easier to remove than others, but one constant (between types), is that they all seem to be easier to remove while they're still warm. If you wait until it hardens you'll have to use alcohol (or stronger agent) to remove it.
