You guys were saying in a previous thread to just use a little bit. How much is a little bit? This good enough?

I'm curious to the answer to this one too. Mine has more than that and after use it tends to 'smooth' out at the high points where it is more overloaded. I was wondering if anyone takes any sandpaper to it to give the surface more consistency after these smoothed out areas appear.

I rub the entire strop with the 'crayon' until it's all green, heat it a bit with a blow dryer, and then just strop. The excess will come off. Reapply when it gets discolored or worn off.

Just threw some more on there. Working better now :) Never used a strop before so wasn't sure how ell/fast this should work :o

I just use enought to lightly cover MOST of the strop. it does not have to be a thick green color or fully covering the strop. A little goes a really long way.

Aaron,
I have the same tools as you. I tape sandpaper to one side and have about the same amount of compound as you show on the other. I've had no problem getting any knife shaving sharp that way. It's been the best investment for all my large knives. Have fun.

Maybe I have too much? I used the hair dryer technique and warmed the strop and softened the green compound a bit, it spreads much easier that way.

aaronjayl, just wanted to know how the strop is working out for you? Contemplating the same purchase.

It's well worth the money chickenfried. Can't quite get as good of an edge as my Japanese whetstones but, it's is 100 times easier. The only trouble I'm having is the tip on my BM-E. Just need a little more practice. The rest of my INFI is razor sharp now though :D

I don't think you have too much. That looks about the same as the Busse air-bleeder strop as it came from Skunk.

That looks perfect to me. You could also put mineral oil on the strop to help the compound soak in, just wipe off the excess. Strops kick ass!
