Verizon Fios or Comcast?

I just got a new place and have yet to order from a cable/internet provider. I have had experience with Comcast in the past, and it was ok (but not great). The place I have now has Fios going into it. Can anyone, who has had experience with Fios give me some feedback? Is it better or worse than Comcast in your opinion? And, no, I don't care to have a satellite dish at the moment.:D

I've had FiOS for 2 years after having COMCAST. I love FiOS and would never go back to COMCAST if I could avoid it. I've never had a single outage in 2 years. Always fast....always on.

This^^^, is what I wanted to hear. So far so good, thanks for the reply.

+1 for FIOS.

I had it in Florida. Nothing beats a nice data stream over fiber, right to your house. Its fast and reliable. No bandwidth sharing over a cable head. I had Comcast when i moved to Texas. I was not impressed with it. Poor data stream. Outages , once a month. I called them several times because we would lose blocks of channels. If they had FIOS down here, I would get it. I have since changed to AT&T Uverse.

Go with Fios.

I had FiOS and switched back to Optimum shortly afterwards. Optimum picked up the ealry termination fee. FiOS blows. Numerous outages, huge bills and fees for everything. You're locked into a 2 year agreement and their speeds not even close to what they advertise.

With Optimum I get a better rate, better service, and a better package. I have the Triple Play....phone (unlimited calling), cable (free HD channels), and highspeed internet (SPEED BABY!!!). FiOS = Huge bill, less service, no free HD channels, and it's Verizon. Good for wireless, bad for everything else.

It sucks you had a bad experience with them. Mine has been the complete opposite.

Your post does bring up a good point. Optimum may be a great service and better than FiOS but is has a limited availability. I can't get it in Pa.

GregS, you're best bet is to check all available services in your area and then do comparison.

Uh-oh, I have heard this before. I appreciate the conflicting point of view, it aides in the decision making process.

I think it has to do with what grid/location you are in when considering reliability of service. The price should stay the same though, at least one would think...

If you want a ridiculous amount of info about the topic, go here. They've been around for forever and are a great source of info concerning ISPs and related topics.

I had Comcast for many years, but switched to FIOS as soon as I was able to a few months ago. I am very glad I did. The service is much better.

I will look into it, Thanks!

Interesting, thanks for the info., I'm seriously leaning towards FIOS.

dunno about comcast but i have fios and am very happy with it. has rcn before and fios is much better - image quality, reliability etc...

I am currently on Comcast. I'm supposed to be on Verizon. That switch as supposed to have been made a week age today. I am told it should be dome today. We'll see.

I am expecting that switching to Verizon will save me over $200 per year. Comcast has steadily raised my rate for years now. Verizon has guaranteed my new rate for two years.

Today's update: No data.... and no phone either. I spent an hour or more on the phone with their repair service being transferred back and forth in a massive game of finger-pointing before I finally put my foot down and got mad. They have assured me that their top man will be assigned first thing in the morning and all will be made to work tomorrow.

My best advice is to try and ask around locally. I don't like Comcast as a much as a business entity, but unfortunately their connections are much more stable around here than Verizon's. Also, the local customer service outlets are better.

Ask a few neighbors, for sure.

Duh! Why didn't I think of this?:confused::D

I'm going to do that this evening.

Verizon sent their best man today. The phone sounds great And the Internet is fast. And my iPhone took to he WiFi instantly.

PGE was here today too and upgraded me to a "smart" electric meter. So, the place is all modern now.

my old neihborhood I had comcast and went high speed as soon as it was available and Zero problems except for the time the hurricane tore up the trees and the tree root ripped the cable out of the ground, I forgave them that one. New neighborhood and I had a lot of problems, finally resolved after calling the PUC (Public Utilities Commission). Cable for the whole neighborhood is now running right and no problems. Took some time but all good now. No experience with FIOS
