Versipack vs Gearslinger?

Versipack vs Gearslinger anyone have tried both? Which is easier or more comfortable to carry long term? Nowhere around my area to look at one. Thanks
Mike

I'm not a big fan of the gear slingers. I've owned two of them. I will say this. Get one made to ride on the shoulder opposite of your strong hand. If you're right handed and get one that rides on your right shoulder it's awkward getting on and off. They usually wind up sinking down to your rear anyway so really no different than a versapack slung to the rear. Personally If I want something that rides on my back I'm getting one of their backpacks. Two shoulder straps distributes the load on both shoulders. Otherwise I use their versapacks for everything else. Never really cared for a single shoulder backpack... which is what the gear slingers are. Good luck in finding the best rig for yourself.

I have a couple of different gearslingers and I agree that they are not for long term carry. If you need something for heavy or long term carry get something that distributes the weight evenly on your shoulders.

Thanks for the reply's. I have a good backpack. I'm just looking for something small just for day use. These seems popular but I can't try one.

The Versipacks are more comfortable than Gearslingers? The only reason I was thinking Gearslings is it would feel better with light load vs Versapack?

I'd say the Versipack is more comfy. The Gearslingers ride nice but with more weight in them, they start to really do a number on your shoulder. The Lunada or Malaga are good daypacks for light to medium loads but if you go heavier for a day of hiking, your shoulders going to hurt.

So the versipack is more comfortable. I was thinking the Malaga with just alittle more than the jumbo would feel better? Perhaps the gears slingers get overloaded with weight while the versipacks are to small to overload?? Jumbo or Malaga?? But comfort is a must. Can you overload the Versipack so it hurts? Or safe to say they are to small? I only need room for camera ,water ,snacks, wallet and small edc. Thanks

You can't overload a Versipack due to it's size, so it keeps things to a minimum.
The Gearslingers are different. More room in one big compartment that can hold much more stuff. If you carry medium loads I'd go gearslinger. If it's going to be a camera bag, go Versipack.

Sounds like the Versipack would be fine unless you plan on carrying more than 1 bottle of water. If so, then it's too much for a Versipack strap. Your shoulder will hurt.

Versipack will hold 1 bottle plus light load= ok.

Lunada will hold two 32oz nalgenes inside the main compartment with not much more room to spare for anthing. You'll know it's on your back with just the water bottles before you add to the pockets.

Malaga will hold 2- 48oz Nalgenes (12"tall) or 2-32oz nalgenes with room on top to spare. A little better due to it's larger size but it'll hurt your shoulder with just 2 -48oz bottles and nothing in the pockets. With one 48oz Nalgene, full pockets (and they are roomy in the Malaga), it's tolerable.

Here are Malaga photos in use...scroll down: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=668330&highlight=maxpedition+malaga

I have both the Malaga, and the Jumbo Versipack, the one that you should buy is the Jumbo.
Now, to elaborate on that:
The Jumbo is more comfortable with the exact same load in it.
The Malaga is a nice bag but not big enough for most items I had hoped to put in it (a DSLR and my umbrella).
The Jumbo is WAY more comfortable for multi-hour carry.
The Jumbo slides around to your front for fast access much more conveniently.
The Malaga's strap WILL dig into the side of you neck, no matter how you have it configured (unless you have the sternum strap on) when carrying it with any real load.

All of this aside, I love my Malaga. It carries my Net-book and other EDC gear very well, but if I don't need my Net-book I will ALWAYS reach for my Versipack.

Is that Khaki? Yup water bottle, but I guess if I carry more than one bottle of water I just need to drink one before my shoulder hurts :). Izula and Hest not much snacks. Guess if it gets to small I can buy another and alternate them like everyone else :)

Mike,
I'll snap a bunch of photos of the Jumbo using a 32oz Nalgene for referance. Check back later today and I should have them up. The Jumbo is really unique and well thought out in design. You can get quite a bit in it.

That is khaki/foliage color scheme. This was a 1 of 100 special model MaxP sold a couple years ago. They now have this color combo as a standard color. It blends in year round and doesn't look like your packing a gun.

FYI the Maxpedition Neat Freak fit perfectly inside the main compartment of the Jumbo Vpack. Makes keeping your small goodies organized a breeze. Plus it makes a good little shoulder bag in and of itself. It also fits nicely in the secondary compartment on the Vulture II pack and I would assume the Condor II as well.

Thanks for all the pic loaded with gear. Guess that would be pretty heavy for that bag until you drank all the H20 :)
