I've had my Hogue EX01 now for a few days. When I received the knife it had some vertical blade play, so I tightened up all the screws and oiled it and it got better. Now I'm left with a minor bit of "knocking" when I wiggle the blade with moderate force. This is no where near enough play to make me want to go through the whole return process nor is it effecting its function. However it is annoying, so I was just curious if there was anything I can try my self to eliminate it?
Also, this is my first button lock, so I'm hesitant towards taking it apart. Is there anything difficult about disassembling them?

They are not bad to take apart, just take pictures or a mental note of how things go back together. It is not uncommon for some button locks to have minimal vertical play. I have a kershaw dimension that has minor vertical play, as well as a few microtechs I have owned in the past (even though they charge so much money no play should be the case). Protech is the only company i have ever come across, that makes production button locks with absolutely no vertical play. If there was any, their customer services, I'm sure would fix ya right up. Bad ass knives too.

On a side note, if you want a junky fix to that, take the knife apart, and wrap some electrical tape around the part that contacts the blade, then cover it in a light coat of epoxy. It will work.

Not sure if it is the same issue you are describing, but I had a weird knocking on one of my EX01's. The culprit was actually the safety, there is a small torx screw on it that was a little loose. Quick tightening and it was cured. Never had any blade play whatsoever in any of the several I own, so it might not be the same issue.

I don't think it is, because when I was tightening all the screws I made sure to hit that one. Thanks anyways though.
It is a nice knife, I just can't seem to ignore it at times.

William Henry makes button locks with no vertical play. On my Auto Stryker, with a button lock, vertical play was fixed for free with a new blade by Benchmade. The problem with taking appart button locks is putting them back together. :) Never done it, but some have had problems.
