Every other weekend, I have the pleasure of sharing my house with my wives 4 kids. A 15 yr old-Clay, 12 almost 13-Rachael, 11- Hallie and a 9 yr old boy named Luke. This weekend Luke and I spent almost the whole time together. He has gotten into guns, knives and outdoors stuff only since I've been around him( I'm sure it drives his lawyer father nuts;) He has his own 22 rifle and pistol which we keep locked up here but he loves shooting my HK Tac w/suppressor most. This weekend while I was using my Basic9 to cut down some trees he asked if he could build a debri shelter. It was perfect for him. Later he asked if he could carve something. I took him to the knives and guess what he picked? A NIB PD:eek: I figured what the hell, if that's the one he wants to use, so be it. Anyway, after he got a short safety course, he proceeds to carve a reasonable facsimile of his PD on steroids:cool: It's really neat to see that there is still some hope in the youth of today. Does it show how proud I am of him? Just thought I'd share on the initiation of a young little INFI piglet :D

That's great Bob. There's nothing quite as rewarding as mentoring a kid in the skills of the outdoors.:)

very good. This world is tough enough without raising kids like pansies. My older daughter knows what guns are and in a year she will learn to shoot them. I already have her knives picked out for her, but they won't be so sharp, as I remember when I got my first Knife when I was about 5-6 years. A razor sharp Puma folder that I proceeded to lay my thumb open with during an orange peeling excursion. It was a beautiful knife though with cobalt blue handled scales and stainless liners.

Yes Bob, very cool indeed :)
Sounds like you will remember this weekend for awhile.
P.S. does he get to keep the blade?

Cool deal man.

You could buy him his own...;) :p

So, lemme get this straight, you jsut ignored the other kids??:p :p :p

Very cool Bob.
This brings up a very good point. It’s a shame that children are being overly sheltered by their parents. Too many children are being educated by television and videogames. Its time people re-introduce kids to the outdoors.

Bob,

Thanks for sharing; I'm sure both you and Luke will have fond memories for a long time of the time you spent together. I have found that time spent outdoors, even doing something as simple as whittling or going for a walk, gives a great opportunity to talk with others, away from the mind-numbing distractions of things like TV.

That does sound like a great weekend, Bob!
I still remember when my uncle taught me how to shoot and my granddad how to whittle!:)
(Wish my short term memory was just as good! :D )
