Okay now, I make knives for a living but like most us that have a living I too have a favorite hobby. Mine is Amateur radio. So a few weeks back I worked The Johnson Space Center in Houston. That was cool and was told just send a S.A.S.E. with my QSL card (that is a card from me that verifies the two way contact with certain verifiable criteria he and I only have in our logs) to some lady called Jennifer and I'll get a nice QSL card in return that has on it pictures and such promoting the shuttle program. Well, being a big fan always of space exploration and pretty much a NASA Groupy I was anxious in sending off. This morning I walk to the mail box, about a 1/4 mile and guess what - a big fat envelope from NASA. Well, imagine my excitement. So I walk back in a faster pace than normal to fetch the knife so as to not just rip open the envolope; and this envolope is fat. All the time I am wondering how my 39c stamp covered all that weight. Well, just as you figured I should have too there was no QSL card but only NASA spill and a bunch of high quality photos and written stuff. So I quess the tax payers bucks get spent first and then, maybe, the QSL card will follow some day in the late future. I love NASA. I have always believed it is one of our wastes more worth than most but I don't need or want you or me to pay for their windshield stickers and high gloss paper print. Thank you very much but all I wanted was a QSL card and I paid the postage for it and I paid for the one I sent you. Don't burdon the tax payers with your failures. If you didn't listen and cave to liberalism you wouldn't have to try to sell us. You were a winner and the best of the best. Why fall backwards into the modern day craft of don't do or say anything that affends someone, especially at our expense. Get a life, grow up and become men again. .. and start sending men only into those flights. Men do what men do best and females do what females do best. Quit sending pictures and literature out to us at my neighbors expense trying to convince us otherwise. We have something you burocrates don't seem to have: common horse sense.

That is my rant of the half year.

Hi Rodger - up to 10-15 years ago I would have agreed with you completely but unfortunately times have changed, and not for the better. The "we" you referred to as having common sense sure are few and far between in my neck of the woods and almost completely non existent in the mass media. I imagine NASA has to keep a PR machine going full tilt all the time just to keep the funds coming in. Do we need a space program? Well we could debate that all day, but most people have no concept as to how many things they have benefited from because of it. Due to the media bias people are far more informed of what NASA, the military, law enforcement, etc… does wrong then all the good they do while risking their lives doing it. And all this under the masquerade of “journalism”. For the record I still agree with you completely in principle, but as I said, times have changed.

It is unfornate that the news media always focuses on the negative or violent things during the news. Too much sensationalizm. The space program has been beneficial in several ways and I agree with what Roger said and I can understand him being upset.
