I received mine yesterday, and have to say I'm very glad I bought it. Mine came with no bladeplay, nicely centered, etc. In addition, and I don't know if all the Salts are getting this upgrade, but I noticed that it's held together with torx screws, at the blade pivot and lockbar pivot. I was not expecting this, and was stoked about it.

Since I'm finding the hawkbill design is ideal for the type of cutting I do at work, I'm going to rest my Tasman for a while and use this as my work knife.

Yeah, IIRC all the Salt models are switching to Torx screws. It's easier for Spyderco when they have to service one of the models.

Congrats on the Spyderhawk!

I want torx screws in my salts! lol James now is the time to post some kick butt pics.

Thanks, yeah, I tried it at work and it works great. I cut a lot of hard plastic strapping at work. It took a bit of getting used to using a hawkbill blade that's bigger than my Tasman's. But it zips through them just as easily.

I wish I could post pics, but unfortunately, I only have an old computer (Windows '98) and no digital camera yet. If I can get those things, I will definitely post pics when I learn how.:o In the meantime, hopefully someone who also has one can post some pics.

Replacing the old rivet pins with torx screws really does take the Salts to a new level, IMO. Not that I've had any problems with the pinned knives, but screwed construction is stronger and, of course, allows for easy adjustment if it ever becomes necessary.

IMO, any hawkbill fan should own a Spyderhawk. :)

Well, as long as you tolerate a pic of an older (pinned) version... here you go ;) :
