Very heavy pull on new Boker Congress

Hello all. I just picked up the Boker Carver’s Congress and the pulls are VERY heavy. Will this break in/lighten up over time?

Also the Spey blade is the only one without a half stop. Normal?

Also, I was thinking of flushing it all out, but usually folks mention blowing it out with air afterwards, and I have no method to do so. Can it be flushed and left to air dry prior to oiling?

Thanks again for any help!

I use a toothbrush and running water, then dry with paper towel then leave on the radiatior and oil when warm.

So do you folks think the pull will lighten on the blades with use? It’s going to see a lot of use…

Yes but very slowly over time. The biggest improvement you'll likely see is from giving the pivots a good scrubbing while working the blades a bit and then oiling it up. I've had some factory knives that were super tough to open when I got them but once I cleaned out some factory grit and gunk and oiled them up they were still strong but way easier to open.

Is there blade rub? I had a Böker Magnum Scout-Camp knife that I needed to thin from the tip back about 1/4 inch so it wasn't hitting the neighboring primary blade. Pull went from daRn near impossible to open the can opener (or was it the cap lifter? I traded it for a SAK Evo Grip 10 a while back ... it was one of the two) to a "5" pull.
Hitting the flat of the blade with a sharpening stone did the trick. It didn't take much, just like it don't take much to file a kick to lower the tip so it isn't proud.

You can buy 'canned air' (for cleaning cameras and keyboards). A can lasts absolutely ages. I get mine from the £ shop 😉👍

Use hot water to wash and rinse. As hot as you can stand. It dries faster. Dry as much as possible with a paper towel. You can flush with WD40. (water Displacement 40) WD40 is a poor lubricant, so still oil when done.

Yes it is normal for that knife to have half stops on all but the spey blade. Why I don't know. But that's the way they make them.

O.B.

No blade rub at all, it’s a well put together knife!

Thats a good tip I didnt know about canned air, maybe I can buy some canned laughter as well and cheer everyone up 🤣

On another note Pound shops that charge more than a pound

In Europe they tend to be 2 Euro shops 😆

I think that heating on the radiator as I do helps the oil to run into the gaps.

You can argue but dont bother 😇

The best oil is Victorinox it only takes a dab and last ages, its food safe and works best.

I have tried machine oil and othe knife oils not as good as Vic oil.

A national disgrace!! 😱They've destroyed the concept! 🤨

When Europe had Euro shops, I found they were a big step down from Pound shops! 😁

I have had success twice leaving a blade open 1/4 and letting it sit for a month. Went from nail breaker to comfortable strong pull. It doesn’t always work. Flushing does help too.

I saw the signs of creeping inflation here in Leeds a few years back!🤣

In terms of lightening a pull, there is some good advice on this subject linked to in the Guardians Thread Index (see post #1 in that thread for the link)
