I have been shooting emails back and forth with Dr Lathe (Neil) and had a chance to stop by his home and meet him today. He is a very skilled knifemaker, his work is great. I had several questions about home building a grinder and Neil provided me with a lot of ideas and suggestions by allowing me to check out all of his homebrew equipment. He also answered questions about several areas of knifemaking I had problems with.
Thanks very much :-)

Dave,
That's what its all about. I believe that L6Steel says it best in his profile signature. Neil, like most other knifemakers, is truly willing to help those that are willing to learn and listen. It is great that you gave further proof to this testimonial. I have been able to learn more from other makers than I ever could have figured out on my own. This is a craft with some very fine folks in it.

When I first started making knives, I didn't have any friends that made knives. Now, all my friends make knives....

Yes I agree, But it’s sad to see some makers get a big head and forget where they came from. The word on the street is Tom Mayo has gone bad, since he hired help in His shop he just runs around yelling all-day and surfing the net. Sad…

Dave,
Thanks for the kind words! It was good to meet you. I guess my mail box is somewhat of a landmark. If anyone comes to visit, once you turn in my developement, just look for the bomb proof, stainless steel mail box!! Dave is not the fist that said, I could tell it was a machinists house by the mail box!!
Dave got to see my shop in it's normal state, A MESS. He also got to see several knives that forum members have on order, and I WAS WORKING ON THEM, I wasn't sitting in front of the TV

As Dave was able to see, a good portion of my shop is now taken up by my sons car!! It will be gone soon and I will be bringing home 2 more of my homemade grinders from work. If anyone is in the area and would like to see them, just let me know! They are all built from scrap materials from my full time job, including the contact wheels!!

I wish we could arrange a get together sometime this year. It would take a big shop to be able to handle us tho. Hey Kit, how big is your shop????Oh well, maybe someday, huh. Take care Forumites!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

Yeah, Tom's just gone off the edge. He was last seen standing on top of Diamondhead in his grass skirt, singing a medley of Barry Manilow songs.

Meanwhile, I try to keep the shop perking along. But hey, the monkey and I are turning out some pretty good knives. That new TNT model the monkey did last week is a pretty slick knife, far better than anything Tom ever did.

Back on the thread, most knifemakers are pretty helpful, but Neil is one of the best.

Magnum,
I keep meaning to take some pictures of the grinders. I usually have to rush around to get the knives photoed and forget to shoot the grinders!! I will put that on the list....I DO HAVE a list!!
L6,
Everyone is welcome but we will not fit in the shop. I have a pool and BBQ and large fridge to hold beer. We should be all set!!
GA,
Wow!! I'm afraid to touch that one!!

Gosh, Dave. That's really interesting about Tom. Sorry to hear it.

If it was a joke, then my apologies.
