Pretty soon, Fletcher Knives will NO LONGER be making kydex sheaths by order. Honestly it just consumes too much of my time and energy. If I were to keep making them, I would have to increase the price to about $50 each just to break even between cost and time. For those of you who have sheaths of mine, hopefully you can tell why. I put an awful lot of time into getting those sheaths absolutely perfect and cleanly finishing them. My attention to detail on them is the reason why I can't do them anymore. My only alternative would be to offer lesser quality sheaths that I could do faster, and I know damn well that not only do my customers deserve better than that, they deserve THE VERY BEST, period.
This change over will be going into effect after Blade Show.
Now you're asking, "well what the hell are we supposed to do? What good is a knife without a sheath?" AND I have the answer. It's time for a price increase on Fletcher Knives anyways, but I didn't want it to be an increase for no reason. I want my customers to get something for their additional money.
For the last few weeks, I have been working together with an incredible local leather worker here in the metro-ATL area. We have together been perfecting the new line of sheaths for Fletcher Knives LLC. Starting after Blade Show, EVERY FLETCHER KNIFE WILL COME WITH A HIGH QUALITY LEATHER SHEATH!
Now, I know some of your guys prefer the kydex to the leather, and I have taken this into consideration. That is why I have I have two solutions. One, I have a couple of people who are Bladeforums regulars that I can recommend for kydex. Two, and more importantly, I have agreed to teach the new Fletcher Knives sheath maker to do the same quality kydex that I do. Honestly I'm hoping he can take it even further than I have. We haven't worked out the logistics yet, but when we get it worked out, you'll be able to order kydex sheaths for your knives and he'll be making them instead of me. YAY!
As for the price increase, you guys know that my main goal is to get you the best quality gear for the best possible price. That being the case, you won't be getting inexpensively slapped together sheaths from a chop shop. You'll be getting really high quality sheaths from a master leather artist for a really great price. I'm still working out the final adjustments, but it looks like an increase of $35 across the board. The ones I'm still checking will be the sheaths for smaller knives like the PK and Esteban. Also, the price will be slightly higher on some of the larger Bowies and such. Now, you guys will notice that this price is only slightly more than you would pay for a JRE sheath before shipping, and MUCH less than you would pay for damn near anything else. And guys, believe me, these are not cheapy sheaths. These things are serious quality. I have worked hard with this guy to make sure of that. He got the "best for my customers" speech more than once. lol.
Now, here is the exception. Sometimes, I make a really crazy custom piece that just screams for my kydex/leather blends and my incredibly artistic/anal touch. Some of my customers have benefitted from this when I say, "I'll make you something special. Just trust me, you'll love it." When this is the case, I will just do the sheath work myself, and it will be part of the cost of that particular knife. Please do not ask for this. It is something I do now and then as surprise when I get a wild hair up my ass. Asking for it will definitely kill the chances of it happening.
Ok. The 4 beers I drank while writing this post have kicked in and I am now done. Feel free to ask any questions.
Guys and gals, I hope that you keep in mind that any change I make to my company is a change I make FOR YOU. I take my customers into consideration FIRST. I want you guys to get the best gear for you dollars and try my best to not only make that happen, but also improve what that means. You guys are the reason I get to make knives and I love all of you. Yes, even you Ben Sande.
My customers are the flesh and blood of this company and I will always try my hardest to make things better and awesomer (yes, that's a word) for you.

In addition to mine and Andy's sheaths, he also has a ton of other leather products he offers. Be sure and check his stuff out. I saw a badass holster in his shop with Day of the Dead skulls on it that I want.
Feel free to discuss.
I appreciate every single one of you.

Edit: Anyone who currently has dibs on a knife with a kydex sheath will still get kydex unless they ask for leather instead.
