Hi all!
This is my first post in this forum as I recently received my first CRK Large Sebenza for Christmas (Unique Graphic, Mosaic Triplet Opal Inlay) and it is just too beautiful for me to dare use! It impressed me so much with its craftsmanship; I’m looking for another Large Sebenza, Umnumzaan or, if I can find one, Ti-Lock to use as an EDC. My question is: how are the serrations on the CRK Large Sebbie? Or, more specifically, should I get serrations or not? How does the Sebbie compare to the Umnumzaan and Ti-Lock?
FWIW,
I have had, and still do have (a few – most are now fixed blades) folders that are as expensive as, or more expensive than the Sebbie; but none that I have ever had compare to the Sebbie! It is just a fantastically made knife. I particularly like the looks of Micarta or wooden inlays, or the diamond-bed handles.

TIA,
Joe

I just remembered that I have had a couple CRK fixed blades – Green Beret & I can’t remember the other. :o

Note: I’m trying to figure out how to edit picture size on my new PC (I recently got a new PC out of necessity due to a virus – it was 3-5 years old anyway) so I can post it.

Congrats on the new CRK! I would suggest getting a micarta inlay if you want a knife for edc purposes, but really you won't be upset with any CRK you get.

Welcome!!!! Beautiful knife you have here. I love the triple Opal.
I can't wait to see pictures.
I'm like you. I have several really nice knives and a few really nice CRK's.
Some wood inlays, mammoth, micarta, plain, unique graphics and Zann's.
For some reason I always go back to my micarta Sebbies. I love the tumbled ads, feel of the micarta and I think it Si
Ply looks great and very utilitarian. Sometimes I carry when dressed up.
I prefer the tumed blade over the polished blade too.
Whatever you get show us and also report back how you like it once you e spent some
time with it.

Congrats on your Sebbie -- looking forwrd to seeing some pix.

As for serrations, a properly sharpened CRK plain edge will do everything (and more) that a serrated edge will do. Plus, PE's actually cut; SE's tear. So, unless all you do is cut rope all day, I don't see the need for serrations.

JMHO - YMMV.

I forgot to answer your question about serrations.
I never found much of a use for serrations. My Sebbies when sharp cut freaking amazingly. I personally think serrations is gimmicky and not popular. I think that shows when you see a CRK serrated knife for sale on the exchange or other forums because they are hard to sell.

There are 2 micarta Sebenza's for sale i the exchange right now for good prices. One small and one large.

I bought a large ironwood seb about 8 months ago and I had the same debate on serrations or not. I ended up without just cause I decided to start traditional for my first and my next one w prob be a small diamondplate w serrations. I think that would be SWEET

I personally like the serrations on the Seb. The fact that they are double sided makes quick work for what I need it for, i.e. cutting boxes, fishing line, rope etc.. If you are going to do serrations you can't beat the CR serrations.

I am/was in the same boat. Been 'collecting' for 35 plus years, but got my first Sebenza for Christmas, a small plain 21. Though for me it was the most expensive knife I'd ever owned. I was totally blown away by the quality and craftsmanship, balance and feel. I also knew almost immediately that I needed a large to go with my small.

Well, I got my large today. A diamond-plate Large 21, it was an embellished Sebenza that I believe will stand up very well to EDC use.

A great first sebenza sounds like. I like the CRK serrations, I had a micarta Sebenza with them and I foolishly sold it. They work great and are not to bad to sharpen.

I think that if you look around there would be plenty of sebenzas used or new that would make you happy to carry. I do have a few sebenzas that are safe queens but the others are for using, and I like a nice looking working knife.
