I have carried my Kizer Sheepdog for a couple months now. It is the Vanguard series with 10v blade steel. It is still as sharp as the day I got it.
My wife used it today to cut open some Quickcrete play sand. I thought “oh great…. “ it is still razor sharp after 5 bags of sand!
I know the Sheepdog isn’t for everyone - and some of you won’t buy from China. I thought someone might find it interesting though.

I was not a fan of the HUGE Sheepdog. This one is a “medium”. The ergonomics are stellar. It’s nice and smooth… and the blade steel is very impressive. I wonder why I have spent so much on other knives.

Begrudgingly like. Bought a couple when they were $60, as the big slab of 10V had me convinced. If I liked it, it would be a good super-steel beater, if not, slab of 10V still there. It was surprisingly thin at the edge, I thought all these cleaver-style knives would not be, but it is. Only other knife I have that is remotely similar to that would be my Yojimbo/jumbos.

CPM-10V on the other hand? Iiiiit's the zuzziest... it's the zazziest... it's the zoobly.. doobly.. dazzliest!

I looked at it long and hard. I had it in my cart once or twice. I wish the 4" version was 10V and I would have pulled the trigger. I rarely go below a 3.5" blade nowadays.
I'm glad you like your new toy.
PS. I wear a 2xl+ glove. Big paw.

You suck. I was blissfully unaware of this knife (in 10V thumbhole on bearings with micarta form). Thankfully it is cheap. I wish it had a front flipper as well as the hole opener. I'm selling a few knives and saving for a custom Brian Tighe large Twist Tighe OTF. Then this will be the next. Or, maybe I'll chicken out spending $1k and just spend the $90. Thankfully BHQ is out of stock, or I'd jump on the green micarta.

I've been eyeballing these 10v Sheepdogs, but the one that really has me on the hook is that Knifecenter exclusive with 4v and the titanium clip.

Pretty pricey tho. The 10v versions are much more affordable. Still, the clip upgrade might be worth it.

I just got the Reylight exclusive with the frag pattern micarta and it is very awesome.

Lol friendo, length isn't the only dimension that matters ergonomically.

Even the mini Sheepdog feels like a regular sized knife in the hand.

between that and it being a liner lock I’m gonna have to pass.

I’m a big fan of 10V and would like to try it with a DLC coating.
I really do like the other aspects of this knife. Man, another lock type and made in USA Id gladly pay double.
Thanks for posting up something I didn’t know about.

YES, ... 10V

I was late to the party (below from early 2016 when I first started carrying 10V).
Shortly after this pic (P at 1.6° / S at 20dps), reprofiled secondary's to 15dps, which is where it has resided since.
The shavings (and most of the work on this staff) are from the sharpened spine, which also bennifits greatly in long term sharpness from the steel composition.

Tangentially related... I think I have too many PM2s, at eight.
I think I might try to downsize one eventually... but here is the thing, I want one "pure cutter" PM2, that is almost all edge retention. I have heard K390 beats Maxamet, and I currently have Maxamet and 10V in a PM2. I don't know about this American K390, either, if it is better or worse than the Nippon stuff. So, what would you guys pick for sheer retention? 10V is not that tough.

I want to put a set of beautiful Russian scales I have arriving later in the month on my choice of PM2, as I have a S45VN with some beautiful Ti scales on it, and that is the only one I modded. Things like micarta, copper scales, I just bought the Spyderco version, no aftermarket. My all-black Wharnie and my purple Cruwear are the only ones I intend to keep stock G-10.

K390 does not beat Maxamet on edge retention. The only steels in current/recent production that are comparable to Maxamet are ASP-60 and Z-Max, and neither of them are available on the PM2 platform right now.

News Flash:
A "pure cutter" is NOT going to be "that tough". However, tough can mean different things to different people.
What makes a blade (what I interpret as) "pure cutter", is related to geometry. To make a PM2 super slicey, and/or cuts with minimal pressure, relates mostly to an adjustment in geometry.

In the honeymoon phase with my K2, I did a fair amount a batoning with it and the 10V survived nicely. Shown here sectioning off some old growth lightening strike kill.

But, would I do this with 10V and this type of geometry ... NO

To give visual perspective to my comments related to geometry being what improves cutting ability re: "pure cutter".
The knife on the right (JRs) is a great cutter, and I have already thinned the primary - but by comparison the geometry on left (Fairly) is more what I would term as "pure cutter".
In hand comparison working is night & day difference (even with the minimalistic cord wrap interface).
TBE on that Farily is similar to the K2 above (also Post #13)

I love my K2

I love my K2
Truth told, I never/rarely make positive comments about mine (as I had hoped to find more at reasonable price as the masses really ignored this one).

Yep, the handle ergonomics suck and Farid never explained why he designed a "hard use" knife with such fragile geometry and fragile blade steel :-/
K2 is such a bastard !##!

I love the ergonomics and workmanship of the Kizer Sheepdog line. I have both the Mini and the XL (a classier version of the smatchet). I'm not normally a fan of tiny knives, due to having hands of unusual size, but the Mini Blue is often in use for shipping and receiving. The XL is just a big goofy fun knife that I like to fidget with, but still finding myself occasionally using it around the yard.
