Out of a broken shovel, a piece of rubble, using a homemade belt sander too!

How is it more inspiring than a video of a guy making a knife out of quality materials? Exactly like the makers here do everyday?

I didn't say it was more inspiring than anything else. I enjoyed the vid a lot & felt to share it with other knife enthusiasts.

This is a repeat thread. I think this exact subject was at the top of the heap about a week or two ago.

Yeah. Somewhere it came up. And my feeling then was the same...a guy made a crude knife out junk. And? Meanwhile there are a ton of WIP threads/videos here by skilled artisan/craftspeople making beautiful knives out of gorgeous materials. Cerified Master Bladesmiths!

I don't get it, but de gustibus, I guess. To each his own. I guess I should just post my "popsicle stick" and "toothbrush prison shiv" making videos! :D

It was tempered steel. I think it's a great knife. Even more so because it's made out of junk. I haven't been on this forum for years. I recall there being pros but this kinda shit was inspiring me to get back on here.

Great. Good to have you back. Enjoy the discussions/disagreements!

I luv this video. I made a knife out of a power hacksaw blade and a hockey stick and an old busted leather briefcase when I was a kid. I had no idea about heat treat or bevels or overheating the blade. but guess what? I still have it and it still works.

I really enjoy knife making and watching other guys make knives.
I fully appreciate the difference between a hobbyist and a professional

Well, we get plenty of prison shank customs here too. I agree though the shovel knife I just dont get it nor do I find it very special. Honestly I could see a designer pooper scooper made from a shovel but a knife? not so much.

Cool thatsaknife! Sounds like some nice childhood creativity. Honestly PURPLEDC, if you can't understand a knife being made out of a nice sized piece of tempered steel you're a dork. & yes, happy to be back, don't recall so many disagreements but hey.

Welcome back!
It's not so many disagreements.
It's the same few people showing off how smart they think they are.

Well, there will always be those around here whose opinions differ from yours! Nature of the beast. Wish I had a nickel for each member here who has an opinion different than mine! All of 'em dorks.

Thanks I did not know it at the time but the hacksaw blade I used was not that bad a choice of steel(Eclipse I think) and it actually keeps an edge!

I just watched a few more of the guys vids. He makes a knife from a pry bar a cold chisel a cleaver from a saw blade and a bunch of other cool stuff.
The man makes the effort to film and post videos for our entertainment and education. I dont see how I could say anything but good things about him

I don't know what prison you guys have been to, but the one I worked at the only toothbrushes they got were less than 3" long.
They really give your fingers a work out when you actually use them for their intended purpose. I liked them to clean guns with.

LOL, not quite like the movies is it huh? That post got me thinking about what else they probably don't get that they do in the movies. Pens? Disposable shavers? What about things like deodorant & food tins or glass?
