Good evening (well actually morning),
I am just getting started in this enterprise. At this point the only knife I've made is a simple "marking knife" for wood working. I must say I did enjoy the process.

So I don't irritate you with a lot of newbie questions I was wondering about a book or books that would help get me started.
I was also wondering about suppliers to try or avoid and if there were any organizations or guilds to look into.

Thanks

Doc Wiseman

If you do a search on the subject,"newbie books" ,you will get several previous threads with lots of lists on this. Most questions have been asked many times and are found easily in a search of old threads.Books are a great way to get started. This forum is another.Again ,Welcome.

Doc, one book that I liked covers several styles of making, including by file. It also covers at least two types of sheath making and styles.

It's "how To Make Knives", by Richard W. Barney and Robert W. Loveless. You can find it at www.amazon.com for one. They have good prices and you can buy it used for less if you prefer.

Here's a "few" master supplier lists for you to peruse at your leisure.

Most makers just use basically a small handful of suppliers, but the links will show what's available, for sure.

If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask here. That's what this place is for.

Welcome to BFC! Enjoy!:D
