This model (Gw-200 Frogman) seems to be one of the more desired models, although not particularly easy to find. Places like Wal-Mart and Target carry G's, but they dont have a huge selection and generally carry the most common models. You can find them online (be careful of fakes on ebay which seem to be common) and you can find them at some specialty watch stores. I found mine at a mall watch store and would have expected to pay retail but lucked out and got it on sale for about the same price as you find online. This model isnt cheap either way, but it sure seems to be an excellent watch.

The watch is off center from the band, not sure why but it actually looks good. It has the typical G-Shock construction which pads all the electronics on the inside to prevent damage from impact and vibration. It then surrounds the case with the bezel which further protects the watch. This particular model I believe has a titanium case. The back cover on most current G's is held in with 4 screws and is plenty sturdy. This model uses the old style solid stainless back which is threaded and screws into the back as one piece.

It has lots of features, a few of which I have no use for but some people might.
Tough Solar Power - Vey nice feature, use the alarms or light all you want, simply give the watch a little light from time to time and you are in good shape. Should function in total darkness for 6 to 8 months.

Shock Resistant - Drop it, bang it or expose it to heavy vibration, it will have no effect.

200M Water Resistant - Deeper than I will ever go, rain and my shower will be the most exposure to water it will ever have.

Low-temperature Resistant - Should have no problems in even the most extreme conditions.

Dive Timer - Not something I use.

Vital Statistics Databank - Will hold stuff like passport numbers and such. It also stores your blood type which could come in handy in an emergency, of course any rescue personel would have to know to check it (not likely).

Full Auto EL Backlight with Afterglow - Auto activation can be turned on or off.

3 Daily Alarms - Good feature.

Countdown Timer - Great for cooking which is what I mostly use a timer for.

1/100 Second Stopwatch

Hourly Time Signal

Battery Power Indicator

Power Saving Function - If in the dark to long, the display will shut off to preserve power. Will reactivate by pushing a button or tilting the watch towards you.

Auto Calendar

12/24-hour Formats - Some people like one format, some like the other.

Now before a few folks start in on how the "Solar models have problems are not worth it", dont worry about it. A few models with particularly small storage cells did seem to have some problems early on. The ones like this model and several other that use larger cells such as the 2016 are not in the group that had problems. Even the smaller cell models that did seem to have been taken care of, so its just not a concern anymore.

If you can purchase the watch locally, you might be better off so you can try it on first, this model is big...even for a G-Shock.

Hi All-

The engineers at Casio really need to dispose of that silly graphic of the "passing minutes" that is located in the 11 o'clock position. That space could be better used to increase the size of the time display...this is something I've noticed on my G-Shock as well.

Good review and picture.

That's the only thing I don't like on G-Shocks. My 2668 has 3 of them. I like the display on the Timex that sak_collector posted the picture of in the recent thread.

I think at least some people like the models with lots of graphs, the more graphs and flashing displays, the better for some folks. On some models I think it looks pretty good, although it does generally do so at the expense of a large time display and makes it more difficult to see the time at a quick glance. Casio does have a few models with good large time displays. My GW-300 has nice big numbers.

The Timex pic I had posted also has nice big numbers, although I dont think I will ever get another negative display again.

Nice big handsome watch! For those who wear them on their left wrists, it is a plus since the entire case is offset to the left with respect to its band. This helps minimize any digging into the wrist area while on the move. I' ve no problem reading the digits on my Casios. But yeah, they could make them bigger. I have a Shock Timex that have digits that could be read in a glance. Big difference. And no larger in size or less functions than many of the bigger Casio models out there.
