Rec. a REKAT Savant from PVTK. Have been carrying my Hatamoto but today screwed around with this little Savant. Attempted to take it apart but broke the small torx head I have when trying to do so. Must the be the g10 screws are loctited in.
This has the rolling lock. Sort of similar but not really to the BM axis lock. If I remember my Carnivore at all they both use an Omega type of spring but the REKAT is on one side only and I belive the BM is on both. Couldn't take it apart due to the failure of my torx so can't say much about what makes it tick. Other than the fact that it feels kind of gritty when opening, not unlike most EKI's when you get them. Closing is butter smooth and wish frankly it was the opposite.
This is a small clip blade folder that has about 3.25" blade of Black T coating. The scales from what I have heard are either Black T coated alum or Black T coated T6 aluminum with thin black g10 overlays on top. Very nicely done as the scales sit nice and flush but allow for a good purchase on the knife.
Knife was working sharp out of the box so I have sharpened it on my Lansky and was surprised to find the cantle at 30deg. Pretty darn sharp now and the steep angle allows for a good bit of steel behind the edge so it should be pretty tough, especially being ats34. Matter of fact it was kind of a pain to sharpen. Seems to be a high rockwell hardness, no idea what the # would be but just from passed experience it seemed pretty difficult to get an edge. Just took longer to do is all.
Looking down through the knife with the blade closed the washers appear to me to be really thick. More so than any other knife I own. ITs all black inside and out so it is kind of hard to tell really even with a light on it but they look thicker than "normal". The only other smaller knives of about the same size I have are the M4, CQC7b(of course), and a Peter Herbst PE. I would have to say that the Savant stacks up extremely well against all of them. Maybe a bit tougher just judging by handling and how it is put together. Thickness of the blade, handles, etc. etc. There isn't any blade play in any direction and the knife locks up super tight with a nice click sound. It is a pretty nice little folder and not intimidating at all.
The biggest bitches I have with it are I can't get it apart, it opens rather grittingly if that is a word and well that is about it. Pretty nice folder all in all and pretty cheap for the build quality considering what you get. keepem sharp
