Hello Tom,

I saw that auction and even limped in a bid myself…but that was when it was under $100! The knife looks authentic to me and was most likely a custom made to the customers specs. I didn’t see anything about the knife that raised any red flags. The stamp looks right, the lignum vitae handle, handle spacers, blade work all look fine. Handle material suggests it was made in the mid 1950’s but could have been as late as 1960. Looks like the sheath has been with the knife for decades and does not look like anything I've ever seen from Buck. Would not be the first knife ive seen where the sheath was made by a local custom leather shop. This makes sense since it would not fit any of the current sheaths so it would have had to be made special and maybe the customer took care of that, way back then.

I would like to see if the sheath looks like it was made for that knife because if it does, it probably was. Also, maybe the sheath was restitched at one time? I saw white thread around the pouch perimeter.

Overall a great knife! I told a buddy I would not be surprised to see it sell for over $500, which is high for a LV knife. I would have given 500 for it at a knife show!

I hope this all helps and thanks for contacting me!

So... it's fake???

Thanks, TAH.

If Joe says it looks authentic........it must look authentic.

Although.....his bid WAS under $100.

Sigh, he is the Buck historian. If he says its authentic then it must be. I think i will have to side with Steelhead Bully and go down that road here.

Let's try to stick with the facts, my esteemed Buck Buddy.

Joe didn't say it was authentic.

Joe said it "LOOKS authentic."

Nobody can know for sure......which is what I've said all along.

:)

I do suspect the tiny dots in the stamp were a product of digital photography closeup (I've seen that before) but I can't tell unless I have the knife in hand......and even then it might not be a solid conclusion.

I agree that.....other than that one caveat.....the knife LOOKS authentic.

I understand why Joe's bid was under $100. I wouldn't have gambled much either........I'd have gone $75.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

But I have no time. Detroit is dominating the first quarter.

I suspected that Green Bay was not all that good.

:)
