Very OLD Japanese Knife. Need help ID'ing maker????

I recently purchased what appears to be a very old Japanese knife cleaver and would like to know more. It is approximately 11.75" long in total (including wooden handle) with a blade height of 3.5". The knife is marked in the metal with a number 3 under a circle with a tree, birds and a river with Japanese characters in the circle. Does anyone know this marking or maker of this knife? I have photos but don't know how to upload them to this site. Thanks!

Pretty good chance we can identify it, but abosultely need photos. Good clear pics of whole knife and close up straight on shots of the engravings, both sides.
