Only Three of these are known to exist in their original forum. It is the Loveless Battle Knife. One went to a French Legionnaire. This one to RW Loveless himself. Marked RWL, and One to his partner Jim Merritt. Jim's was marked JM. A beautiful Piece. And quite valuable. Thanks to Coops magic. We can all enjoy seeing a very rare piece! Mike

Awesome , it would be an honor just to hold that beauty.
The tapered tang with the red spacers looks simply brilliant.

Heard about it for years, but never actually saw one. A major THANK YOU for posting the pic. An extremely rare piece by a legendary maker. Would you know when Bob made the first one?

You see knives and some of them just look right. The lines, the proportions, the fit & finish. Perfection may not be possible, but in my opinion this one comes damn close.

That looks exactly like a knife periodically made by a Loveless student, Lloyd Pendleton.

One of the great unknowns, in my opine.

Terrific knife.

He's about as grumpy as an old dog can get, and probably has been since birth.:D

He personally reminds me of the way people talk about D.E. Henry.

AWESOME fighter, Mike, thanks for posting it!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Probably why few on the right coast know who he is. Lots of good people remain "relatively' unknown despite their talents.

Beautiful knife! Thanks for posting the pic.
Now, where do you suppose that Legionnaire and his knife are?

Talon. I called the Loveless shop, and sent Jim Merritt the pic. (Bob doesn't have a computer) A friend of ours Just bought the Knife not knowing what it was. Talk about your blind hog finding an acorn! Wow What Luck. He already had it re-sold, and luckily the buyer backed out. He had it priced way under value. Bob and Jim told me that it was made about 12 years ago. There were only three of the Originals made. There are a few of the redesigned ones out there. They were made from the Wilderness Pattern, only bigger. The originals were, for all practical purposes, a scaled up Dixon. A Big Bear without the Sub-hilt, 1 inch shorter blade, and a slightly different clip. Both the originals, and the newer ones feature blades ground from 5/16 stock. Beautiful Knives! I am fortunate enough to have three commissioned from Lovett shop at present. I have the Later pattern here at the shop. I think I'm going to do a little arm twisting to get the Original! It really is one beautiful piece! Mike

Kieth, I don't hav a pic of the newer mod. on a service that I can post here, but here is a Lovett wilderness. They are very close to the Loveless. It is the larger one on the top. The bottom one is the Dixon. This pic. works because the handle shape of the original is more like the Dixon, and The later one is more to the Wilderness pattern. The two Battle knives are basically a larger version of these. I will try to pm you a pic I have of the later mod. Mike Hey! I just found it.

The first is very Elegant and sleek for its size. It almost looks small and light. It isn't small. The later one looks wider in the mid section. A chunker look. I like them both. But the first! OH MAN!
