Ed and Bill...........Merlin and Arthur. Bill never started out to be a "knifemaker".....Ed actually challenged and inspired him. Ed is the mentor, the inspiration and the task master. Bill cares for Ed like the father he never had. It doesn't get much deeper or better than that......Bill can make and has made other great knives but he feels Eds' are the best. Personally, Ed has always told me he loves it that Bill is following in his footsteps and maybe at least one of our sons will too. They have a close friendship and huge phone bills. There are people in this world who always try to tear down good things.......why is that?

No amount of money or fame within our little community comes close to the value of that type of special relationship. Those who don't understand that won't understand much else of value imho.

Don't sweat the small stuff.

I had the pleasure of meeting and talking knives with both Ed and Bill at this year's Oregon show. Nicer, more sincere, and committed people you may never meet. My advice is ignore the negative people out there and keep making some of the finest knives in the world.

I look forward to meeting again,

John

I have nothing but respect for both Ed and Bill. Both are incredibly friendly and willing to share what they know about knives. In the many emails that have passed between Ed and myself I have come to realize that he considers Bill to be a very close friend and a brother of the high performance blade. Bill has worked together with Ed so that both of them could become better smiths.

The knives that Bill makes have impressed me so much that I ordered one of his Idaho Guides. It should be ready in the fall and I am very excited about adding this knife to my stable. Not just because I love the design of this knife, but also because I like and greatly respect the man that is making it for me.

Bill, I am very sorry if the thread I started had you for one minute thinking that I was referring to you. Not a chance. Never have I thought you copied Ed's designs. It was obvious to me from the very beginning that it was the tremendously high regard in which you hold Ed that lead you make knives that borrowed from his design. I sure hope we are still friends.

I also met Ed and Bill at the Oregon show, and appreciate the honesty of the men and the knives they make. Great guys. Great knives.

Keith,

Like I said in the other thread, there is no problem with me. When I first read the thread I was very tired and it was very late. After reading the thread in the light of a new day, with a full nights sleep I could see that you weren't talking about the kind of work that Ed and I are doing Ie.. working closely together to make a better knife. No hard feelings and you have done nothing to apologize for.

Bill

I sure feel a whole lot better knowing that is how you feel, Bill and I am really looking forward to the arrival of my Idaho Guide. :)
