I'm interested in acquiring a vest or two as general EDC kind of clothing. Something to throw on during the summer that can A. Stash some gear and B. cover my waistline. Now I love the 5.11 tactical vest but there are just too many friggin pockets. It's no longer practical to me because it virtually screams "I"M HIDING STUFF!"

So I'm looking for a light weight casual, kickaround vest or two that is basically a 5.11 light sort of a 2.555 ya know?

Links and pics would be much appreciated.

Something like this?

It's from Filson. When they say "tin cloth", they mean it. There's also a Travel Vest and Moleskin Vest. Simply search for "vest" at their homepage.

Filson makes very high quality clothing. I own ALOT of their traditional line (Mac Weekender, Tin Cloth Klondike, moleskin vest X 2 and a plethora of hats)and even more of their leather goods and luggage. I would recommend any of their gear for daily wear. Check out the travelers vest and the aforementioned tin vest (my next purchase). Beware of the lodge line however, definately not the same as the traditional line.

Yep. Filson products are traditionally made in the USA; the Lodge line is imported. The Lodge stuff is probably on par with Eddie Bauer or St. John's Bay products, except you're paying for the Filson name.

Don' t have pics. But Columbia clothing makes some fine lightweight "nycott" (nylon/ cotton feel) vests. They are more like travellers/ foragers vests rather than tactical vests. Been wearing a few for years now. And they hold up well.

Want something light and cheap? Do as I did and take a BDU shirt and remove the sleeves. Comes in various colours but mine is black, holds first aid kit, navagation/singnal kit, shelter kit, and food kit.

Working on sewing water bottle pockets on the back like 5.11 to fit metal Primus water bottles.
