Vesuvius for defense?

I just got my Vesuvius today. The blade shape is a bit odd, like the Wegner / Starmate.
Is this shape a good choice for self defense?
Has anyone tested the compression lock, how much it takes before it gives up?

The blade shape and lock seem pretty OK to me, it's the handle I'd probably have a problem with for MBC use. There does not seem to be much in the way of protecting your hand from sliding up or down (off) the blade. I don't own one, so how slippery is the grip?

Thomas,
This depends on what do you mind speaking about self-defense.

If you are in the situation when the single life saving solution is to cut your assailant – Vesuvius is as good as each other knife. There are at least few dozens of points on human body where you can deal dangerous or even deadly wound even with half shorter blade. Honestly wish you never to find yourself in such conditions, greatly probably you will not be too happy even if you will win this fight and escape from danger completely unharmed...

On the other hand if self-defense should depend on showing your assailant your knife and such way convince him (them) to let you alone... Hmm, this depends on your opponent(s) intellectual condition. Sensible man would really let you alone, the problem is that sensible men usually do not harass anyone causing them to defend themselves with knives.
However you have much less chances to scare your opponent(s) with Vesuvius if you deal with idiot(s)...

The great thing about the Vesuvius is that it's big enough to be used for self defence, but not so big and heavy that you will leave it at home or in the car.

I like the compression-lock alot and it seems more fail-proof than nearly all liner-locks I've seen (not framelocks however).

As for the blade shape: I think it would work fine for stabbing or slashing. The large thumb-hole is nice too.

Good luck,
Allen.
