The Vesuvius looks interesting. I might buy one. I can't find one in a store around here, so I need opinions from Vesuvius owners.

They are available guys. I have one and it is quite a nice knife. A very useful blade pattern and a comfy handle. It makes a great gent's folder on the larger side.;) My only prob is it pinches me sometimes when I open it. Just bad technique on my part tho.

BTW,
Ruff's Saddle Shop and Knife Sales has them methinks.

I like the blade shape and the clip options, and the compression lock is a clear improvement on the linerlock. I'll get one when it's available without the inlay.

My wife really likes her Vesuvius. Her other favorite is the Mouse. The Vesuvius has a similar blade shape, although on a much larger scale. It looks great, feels good in the hand, and cuts anything you put to it.

I was worried that the plastic handle would make it look cheap, despite the nifty shell inlay, but it doesn't. It's a classy-looking knife.

I like the shape of the Vesuvius, but not the shell inlay. (I would be afraid of accidentally dropping or bumping it). I will wait for one without it, also I should wait awhile anyway...I'm trying to resist buying any knives for a while until I can save for a Sebenza.

The shell inlay is actually a micro thin slice of shell laminated onto G-10. Very little chance of it warping or cracking.

Overall, I like my Vesuvius very much. So much that it appears to have worked itself into the regular rotation. Its positives are: great useful blade shape, very comfortable handle, overall put together very solidly, compression lock performs very very nicely so far.

Negatives: The compression lock pinches me about 40% of the time I open it. The inlay is holding up very well, but does make me a little more conscious of what side I lay the knife down and what's in my carry pocket.

People, I just saw the new, inlay-less Vesuvius at the SFO. It has a very slightly textured FRN handle and a silvery spider inlaid toward the butt. I like the looks a lot more, but I didn't feel absolutely compelled to buy one. I probably would've got it if the spider were just black, or just milled out.

The Vesuvius without the shell is now available. Nice pice. The shell is very though and has not been a problem since introduction.

The "pinch" is a part of the compression lock that we're still refining. It occurs only in certain grips. At this time, I like to think of it as a "wake up call" that a sharp blade has just appeared.
