Hey...

I am anxiously awaiting the release of the Vesuvius, and I was wondering if it is still scheduled for April, Is there a set date yet? Are there any pictures available of the models to be released?

Thanks...

Hello everyone,

I was at SFO yesterday (3-29-01)and they had just gotten the first shippment in. I think that it was a small batch and I'm sure they will go fast.
One of them went real fast when I saw it

How about a pic or two of that Vesuvius? I've been waiting for this one...

How much was it? Zytel scales with Shell inlay? What color is the zytel?

If James Mattis were still with us I feel certain he would have posted these himself. I don't think he would have minded if I post them then. All photos by JKM.

Them:"What's that clipped to your pocket, a beeper?"
Me:"Uuh....yeah, something like that."

Those pics are the preproduction ones. The knives have G10 handles with shell overlay. I was wondering if the actual production one looked like that, or more like the overlay Native where the shell part doesnt cover the whole handle.

Any pics of the real one?

Is there currently any way to order these without physically walking into the SFO? Can you give me some idea of how much they're going for?

Are they really available now? Should I hold off on buying that BM 940?

Where are these available and what's the price?

Was at my local shop yesterday. They have the vesuvius and the G-10 lum already. Looks cool, but gotta wait for my collectors numbered ones to show up.

I'm a lucky guy; I drive by the SFO on my way to and from work.
Got to play with the Vesuvius and the G10 Lum yesterday.
I have to be honest: I didn't love the Vesuvius. The handle is FRN (we call that Zytel in my parts) with a shell inlay. I kinda expected G10. The blade shape is very cool, and the compression lock is better than a liner lock, but it still suffers from the liner lock's problem keeping the blade in the handle. You know, 3 degrees of rotation and the blade's out. A lockback and an Axis lock are safer.
Anyway, my major gripe was the Zytel.
The G10 Lum is nice, but you lose some mystique in that knife when you lose the titanium scales.
