Welcome to my BK2 journey. The first couple of comments are ones that I had already posted but still integral to this post. Read on to get to the new additions. Enjoy!

I just purchased the micarta handles from KA-BAR on 1/20/2014 and this problem does still exist. Here is a closeup of the grivory hadles with the factory bolt. Notice the bolt extending beyond the nut.

Here is a closeup of the bolt after I installed the micarta handles. Notice that the bolt does not extend beyond the nut nor is it flush.

Really disappointed that KA-BAR has still as of January 2014 not addressed this problem. Well, I am off to the hardware store to get some stainless!

Just added the stainless steel bolts. The aesthetics of the stainless really bothers me. Will have to remove, mask and paint them to get this blade back to being more tactical.

Here is my Grizzly Outdoors horizontal sheath with 5/16″ diameter ferrocerium firesteel mounted on the bottom of the sheath. I also requested Grizzly to add a small survival tin to the sheath and they had no problem doing so (customer service was exceptional). Went with olive drab standard color.

So let me get this straight, you are displeased that the screws in the handle are not even with the tops of the nuts on either set of handles?

Derek H - Factory supplied screws are just fine with grivory scales. Same screws do not accomodate KA-BAR micarta handles. Problem fixed by purchasing longer stainless steel hardware at my local building supply store.

Micarta is a vastly different material in comparison with the grivory used in the stock scales. As such, it may require a much thicker area under the bolt to provide the same strength since it is a layered material vs a solid poured material. Because of this if it requires longer bolts, those longer bolts may be uncomfortably long in the stock scales (protruding so far above the nuts that it would be uncomfortable to grip). Not sure if this is the reasoning, but it may be applicable.

I'm sure it's a bottom line cost thing, but I'd think that if the micarta scales require longer bolts to completely engage the threads on the nuts, it would be a simple matter to throw 3 slightly longer screws in the package with the scales.

Just my practical CS experience blabbing here. An additional 30 cents on the price to cover the cost of the screws would be a chicken food incremental cost to a customer who is ready to drop $$ on new scales.

The customer would then have the POSITIVE CS experience of opening the box, seeing the 3 screws and saying, "Hey, Kabar included longer screws in this kit. Oh, I bet the scales are thicker." and go away a happy camper, rather than the customer being ticked off and saying, "Damn, these things are too short. Now I gotta go "X" miles and find 3 screws." As in my case, "X" = 22 miles to the nearest place to get them.

If the factory hardware does not work correctly new hardware should be included , or at a minimum notice given in the sales description that new screws will be needed and the size IMHO

I second that... And side note: you do awesome work... I have 3 sets of your handles.. 2 large and 1 tweener... Really want a second set for my sabre bk16 but will have to wait a while for some extra funds

Sorry, but this actually made me laugh.
