To all my fellow veterans...Thank you for your service to our great nation.

Veterans Day is a day to express gratitude to those who have served and recognize their contributions to the country. The holiday began in 1919 as Armistice Day to commemorate the signing of the armistice that ended World War I. In 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all veterans, including those who served in World War II and the Korean War. Today Veterans Day honors all members of the United States military who have served, regardless of whether they served during peace or conflict.

What stones it must have taken to go up and fly/dogfight in those bi-planes! Didn't most fly without parachutes?
Hi Preston,

From what I understand, Military use of Parachutes for fighter pilots did not become a thing until WWII. My Grandfather said those planes were so unreliable that almost everytime their squadron would fly one of those planes would malfunction and crash. I live near an Airforce Base and a few of the times the put on an Air show they would have some of those old bi-planes (WOW) it's windy here and those pilots were haveing a heck of a time flying.

Oh my, My respect for those early fighter pilots just increased by multiples. I don't even like flying now days.
