Veterans Day

I heard some bleeding heart whining on the news recently about how we ought to bring all our troops home right now because, "nobody every wins a war". Granted, nobody ever fights a war, much less wins one, without suffering terrible loss, but I take exception to the notion that we shouldn't ever fight to defend ourselves or defend freedom, because there's supposedly just no way we can "win".
If nobody ever won a war, the United States would still be a British colony
If nobody ever won a war, my much loved state of Texas would still be a part of Mexico.
If nobody ever won a war, the United States would still be a nation divided over state's rights issues.
If nobody ever won a war, the world would be living under the oppression of Nazis and fascists.
Folks keep referring to Iraq as "the war". It ain't, as costly as it is in the precious lives of our servicemen and women, Iraq is only one battleground in a much larger war. A war the free nations of the world had damn sure better win.
To those who have served, and those who still serve, thank you. We can win, we must win, and we will win.

An honest and heartfelt "Thank You" to all of our Vets. You are appreciated.

The disapointment of Korea, and the debacle of Vietnam changed society. I grew up in an America that had discarded the military from their thoughts. There was not as much pride and respect for the soldiers. You know this is true, those of you in my generation.

Today America has pride in the soldiers and vets. They are in our thoughts. We don't intervene in other parts of the world without thinking of them, of the cost.

It is much better in America today. A civilization that honors its military, for all the right reasons, is a healthier place than one that does not, or one that does so out of fear and respect for firepower alone.
If we were 'sick' in some ways during the 60's, today we are healed. There is hope for America. Don't count us out.

Thank you, Veterans.

Thanks for the appreciation.

I didn't do much, stood ready at the end of the cold war, with an M60 at the foot of NORAD,and then helped arm the F 16's that guarded the Atlantic seaboard.

Thanks for the encouragement, Munk.

Things ARE better.

I remember as a kid, watching on TV the Vietnam vets getting off a plane, and being yelled at and spit upon. I remember being very angry, and scared.

Take care,

Tom

MUNK, the mental state, the psyche of America towards its vets is much better than Nam when i came home, and for that i am glad.

May all Veterans be honored and blessed this weekend!

It's people like those here, that remind me of, and are the reason I serve. Somebody has to do the job, and I have the abilities. Thanks for the reminder.

For all the veterans..

Thanks for lgiving me the freedom to hold my little daughter and my little boy safely every night.

I was really disappointed in my community on Veterans Day. In the six mile trip from my home to the aledged center of town to Walgreens, Gas stations and Smiths Grocery (Kroger). There are 4 permanent flag poles that have flags flying everyday. Of the numerous other houses, NOT ONE Flag was displayed in honor of our Veterans.

I remember when I was a kid, almost everybody displayed with pride, The Stars and Stripes. As a Veteran, I found that very disappointing, for all the Military that have died protecting this great Country.

A heartfelt thank you to all veterans. I never served, but I am grateful, and respect you for your service.

There's good merrit to the old tag-line, 'if you can read, thank a teacher. If you can read English, thank a soldier.' For those of you who serve, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It was a dreary, rainy day here on Saturday, so I couldn't do any yardwork. I curled up with my two boys and my dog and watched 'Patton' and 'A Bridge too Far'.

To my brother and sister Vets,
WELCOME HOME.

To my Father, AAF,Army, AF, RIP Dad, you are missed every day.

To my Father's generation, THANK YOU!
