I recently acquired these in a small case. The case had a place for one more "tool" which was not included. Also in the case was a metal syringe which was not set to take a needle but could (if the seals were not totally dried out) be used to draw liquid. These were represented as veterinarian equipment from Japan, which I have no reason to doubt. If anyone can confirm this I would appreciate it, and if the missing piece could be identified that also would be helpful.
The handles and sheaths are wood, the lighter material is bone or antler, and the blades are carbon steel.
