VFD on off switch question

Recently bought a motor and vfd from wayne cole and got my grinder up and running. On the VFD there is a start stop switch and a empty slot for a on / off switch. Id really like to wire in a deitch to kill power to the VFD. My question is whats the best way to wire it. There is a ground and the 2 hot wires coming into the VFD. Which line should I wire the switch into?

I just wired in a regular double pole style light switch in the main line , went from there to the VFD. You can buy a toggle for the VFD also .

I added an on/off switch to my KBAC-27D, I was going to just get the one from KB Electronics, but it would have cost an arm and a leg so I just got one that matched the specs, some primary wire, and some female connectors and plugged it in. I can't remember the specs right now but I will look them up and post back. It is a simple operation in the KBAC VFD

Here is the link to the thread I started about the on off switch and 12345678910 posted a link to the switch needed. If you have the KB VFD there are instructions on how to install theirs , just follow the wire placement

The link above was for Unki Gumbi's setup, which I know to be 110vac and 1.5 hp

If you are using a 2 HP motor, use a 2 HP rated switch.

If you are using 220V (you say 2 hots and a ground)
then you must switch BOTH hots with a DPST switch

EDITED DPST
Double Pole, Single Throw

Put the switch in between the power line in wires and the power input bus connections inside the controller.

I looked for 2 hp toggles and didn't find any yet.

I don't think it makes a difference if you use the connectors that are on the circuit board, or so it doesn't in the instructions that KB provides for their switch. I think all that matters is that the switch itself be rated for the job. Here is the wiring instructions for the KB switch and what I followed to install my switch. This is assuming that the OP has the KBAC-27D, if he has the KBAC-24D it would be this set of instructions. Same Idea just pull a couple of wires off the PCB and plug in the switch leads. Neither set of instructions mention 115V or 220V.

BTW 12345678910, the switch works flawlessly, thanks for the information and help you gave me with mine:thumbup:

I just went and opened up my 27D and other than the 220 jumper there is nothing different in the wiring of the on/off switch as long as your switch meets the specs for your voltage and HP. I took a couple of pictures of the wiring but my camera died, guess I should have charged the battery last night:o

I did the same as mentioned above. I added a toggle switch in the knock out on the VFD cover rated for my 2hp motor. Real simple and clean looking.

Just ran and picked up a dpst switch and got it wired up. Was just super nervous with my brand new expensive toy! And tho i know a decent bit about electricity never fooled with 220v so was super nervous but it worked out. Thanks everyone!

They make a rotary style you could even put a lockout through to keep others from using or turning on when cleaning or adjusting.
