VFD up and running... very nice

Hi All,

Just wanted to share some news. On the weekend I managed to organise a VFD + 3 phase motor for my Coote grinder

The VFD is unreal - I actually managed to get it below cost due to it being ex-demo. It's splash proof as well which is a big plus. Forward/reverse change + variable speed is a dream compared to my old single-speed motor.

The motor is only 1hp, 1450rpm (it was cheap!). I'm running 1:1 pulley ratio at the moment so top speed isn't very fast - I'll change to a larger pulley on the motor to give me some more top end.

This is all stop-gap before (hopefully) getting a TW90. When that happens this motor + VFD will end up being used with a disc grinder.

So far though - all working very well for what I'm doing. Pity I don't have any time to grind this time of year... roll on winter!

Good news Steve, but I'm sure you know the drill....if you don't show us some photos....it didn't happen! ;)

Nice one Steve,

Just got myself a Radius Master. I have a week and a half off from Friday. I have put 1 Photo up on Laventrix with my first two.

Good to hear your sorted.

Way to go Steve, it will make a huge difference to your grinding confidence.

Matt, did you get variable speed on your Radius Master??

G'day Bruce,

I didn't because it was going to be a 4-8 week wait. But I work in the power gen industry and one of the companies we work with are a electric re-winder mob. I spoke to them and they said no problems with adding a vfd later on even a new motor if required.

I wanted to get grinding over christmas. I have heaps of steel, time and just need to get some heat treating worked out.

Sorry to hijack your thread Steve!

Matt
