All this arguing about Cold Steels worthlessness got me thinking about what is going on with the company so I went to their web site for the first time in about 5 yrs and read up on the some of their latest offerings. Then I see that all Voyagers are now made of a steel I'm not familiar with, VG-1. I had a few of the older Voyagers in AUS-8 and they performed pretty well in edge holding, toughness, and cutting ability. Im curious. Has anyone had any experience with Cold Steels new VG-1 steel? How does it compare with the older AUS-8 in edge holding and toughness? Thanks for the replies,,,VWB.

I heard a bunch of guys on this forum say that VG-1 holds up pretty much like AUS-10. If that helps at all. So, I guess it'd be a good bet to say that it holds up slightly better than their old AUS-8.

I have a couple Aus Voyagers and a newer VG-1 model. I haven't really used the VG-1 enough to get a good feel for edge retention, but I did find it harder to sharpen than the AUS versions (I like to convex all my edges from the get go).

sounds good. i was just wondering if cold steel is just bragging again or if vg-1 is really a step up from aus-8. most of the time i have found cold steels perform just as advertised but sometimes, once or twice maybe, i have found them to just be bragging.,,,VWB.

There's a current VG1 thread in the General Discussion forum. The comments there pretty much agree with Troop's.
