VG-10 and chipping

I just wanted to share a quick experience with my fellow spidies. I am fairly new to the higher end "good" knives and wondered if this is the kind of performance to expect. While cutting the vinyl strips that cover the screws on a storm door with my Police model in VG-10, it was dropped from about 7' on to a concrete slab while handing it to a friend to do the other side. It landed directly on the tip:( My first thought was that it would be chipped off at least a few mm and would need a re-profile as the tip of this knife is thin and very sharp. I wiped the concrete dust off and pocketed it. I later touched up the knife on my sharpmaker as I'm sure it's fall wasn't "good" for the knife but I'm glad it did not chip. :D Good steel in my book.

Dude ~ I had an experience with nicking off a small bit on the edge of my VG-10 Drop Point Moran.. When I was dressing a wild boar, the edge had dug into the bony part and nicked off a tiny bit.. I had it re-profiled with the medium-grit triangle stone.. Not too bad and the knife works like magic! :D

Thanx for the story and input Rauder. We've been pleased with the steel since we introduced it with the Moran many years ago.

I chipped the bejeezus out of my VG-10 Calypso Jr by cutting hard, and I do mean hard, repeatedly into a 2x4 without realizing that the reason the blade wasn't going any deeper was because it was hitting a galvanized 16d nail!:barf: I'm and idjit. Reprofiled it on some 60 grit sandpaper, fixed the edge and stuck that baby right back in my pocket. (Did I mention that I said some bad words and shed a few tears;) ?)
