First: Has the VG-10 Delica been released?
Second: Where can I get one?
Third: How do you guys like them so far?

I tried doing a search, but I didn't turn up too much info...

Thanks,

I've got a VG-10 Delica & Endura coming from www.knifeworks.com also. Roger and Kristi have given me the best customer service I've ever found. They don't list the VG-10 models on their site, but just drop them an email and they'll be glad to talk to you about it. And they're the same price as the old ATS-55 ones. If they don't have them in stock, they get them every Wednesday.
I've been very pleased with VG-10 on my Calypso JR. and Navigator. In my eyes, it's the best all-around steel in this price range.

Greetings~
Spyderco is up-dating several models to VG10 this year. The lightweight Delicas, Navigator, and the Pro-Grip are already available. There will also be a VG10 lightweight Native, Merlin, lightweight Pro-Grip, Endura, Rescue Jr., Police, & Harpy.
Aloha~

I just got a plain edged VG-10 Delica last week from Bayou Lafourche after waiting for a couple of weeks. It has the flat (sabre) ground blade. The blade really looks very good with the flat grind, makes it look a little simpler and more elegant. It also has the Boye dent in the lockback. I don't know if it will replace the Calypso Lwt. Jr. for my EDC, but I think it will see a lot of use. Nice knife.

Lightweight Native in VG-10???

YIPPPPPEEEEEE! I really like the design of the Native but have been having a great deal of trouble with sharpening the CPM-440V version that I have. I'd "Go Native" over one in VG-10!

Thanks, Jeff.

Thanks for your help. I ordered a blue Delica w/ VG-10 & Spyderedge from www.eknifeworks last night. This will be my first Spyderco product. It seems that it'll make a great hard-user.

Ive had my VG-10 D Lightweight, for about a month now. Full Serrated. I swear to god its one of the best damn EDC. Just for cutting jobs. Any other kind of force would screw it up. I have carried everything, even a bunch of customs, and there not even close, as long as it straight forward cutting.

BTW, whats with the lightweight. Whats with the cut out on the release. Is this to just make it lighter, or so its not easy to close while gripping it.

Thanks
Matt

Greetings Matt~
The "cut out on the release" is called the David Boye Dent. The removed piece lessens the possibility of gripping the handle hard enough to depress the lock and accidentally unlock the blade while using the knife. You'll find it on many of our models (Jester, Harpy, Merlin, both Enduras, both Delicas, Police, & Civilian).
Aloha~

Well I got my Blue Delica yesterday... Unfortunately they sent me an ATS-55 model instead of the VG-10 that I ordered off the website. With all of the complaints which I read about ATS-55 rusting up, I think it's safe to say that this knife is going to be returned. Pity that, because I already love the knife. Sharpest knife I've ever had right outta the box.

Holden,

I've NEVER had any rusting problems with ATS-55, and I own three models with this steel. If you aren't too concerned about rust there is another issue with these two...

The new VG-10 Delica's are flat, saber ground which results in a slightly thicker blade just behind the edge than does the original hollow, saber ground style of the ATS-55 design. The ATS-55 version may (possibly) be able to take a slightly finer, sharper edge because of this. On the other hand, the VG-10's blade may have a slightly more "durable" edge in terms of strength, and VG-10 is supposed to be superior in edge retention.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the one you got, but if you want VG-10, now's the time to return it.

Jeff/1911.

I most likely will return this knife... I ordered from www.eknifeworks.com because they advertised the VG-10 model. I paid $50 for it and got shipped the ATS-55 version instead. I could have gone down the street and paid $45 for a black ATS-55 model at the local B&M store, and I wouldn't have paid shipping either. I was willing to pay more to get the VG-10.

Wow that's cool. I didn't know you could get a VG-10 version in blue. Can you get the Endura in blue as well?

I'm not so sure that you actually can get a VG-10 Delica w/ Blue handles... Like I said, They advertised a Blue Delica w/ VG-10 but when I inspected the knife I found that it was ATS-55. Probably just an honest error. I don't know much about it though since this is my first Spyderco.

Edit: Actually, the handle is more purple than blue. Is this normal?

Holden,

You should be able to get a blue Delica with VG-10 blade steel, as it's a listed item on the products page of the online catalog. It's shown as being available in plain edge or fully serrated style.

Look here:

Now I did find this under the heading "Spyderco factory store online", but most of this stuff is also available abroad. I would phone eknifeworks and see if you can get someone to actually look at their stock and find one that says "VG-10" on the base of the blade and put it into a box for you. Good luck.

Jeff.

I e-mailed Bayou LaForge to see if they have the VG-10 models. They are currently out of stock but should be available by Wednesday. I went ahead and pre-ordered one for $42, with special instructions to only send a VG-10 model. On a side note, the Blue ATS-55 model that I got has found a home in my girlfriend's back pocket.

Sorry to hear they sent you ATS-55. I just received mine and it is indeed flat saber ground VG-10…and yes, blue.

Not that big of a deal. I actually stole it back for a day to do a test. I was worried about the corrosion resistance of the ATS-55. I used de-greaser to remove all oils from the knife. Then I washed it in dish soap and water, drying it with a hairdryer set on low. I carried the knife inside my waist band almost all day, and it showed no signs of corrosion at all. It's all oiled up and back in my girlfriend's pocket now. I guess my fears of rusted and pitted ATS-55 were unjustified, and now she has my knife. Go figure. At least I have a VG-10 model on the way... I hope. :(
