I saw referenced in another thread that Delicas may be using VG-10 in the future

Is this true? Any other lightweight clipits going to get the VG-10 treatment? It is an awesome steel and would really add a lot of bang to the lightweight lineup.

The thread I saw had a post from Sal, saying that both the Delica and the Endura were due for the change in steel. No mention there of any other models.

Means now, I'll have to buy at least the Delica, maybe both. And any others that get the same steel. Hope they stagger it out a bit, to protect my wallet. :)

A flat ground VG-10 Native would be great. Especially if it had an Amite handle and adjustable pivot.:)

VG-10 is my favorite steel, but I'm not sure that this is a good idea. The Endura and Delica are price-point, entry-level knives. You can get a Calypso Jr. in VG-10 for just a little more, or others for a bunch more. If anything, I'd rather see Spyderco switch to a steel that's *less* expensive than ATS-55 and that has much better corrosion resistance. That'd keep costs down and also keep newbies happy with their first real knives.

That said, if the Endura comes in blue, it's mine...

Dennis: Sal also mentioned that the Enduras/Delicas are getting a change in blade grind (from hollow to sabre) this year, so since they have to re-tool annyway they are probably using this as an opportunity to upgrade the steel at the same time.

Shmackey: VG-10 does have better corrosion resistance than the ATS steels.

By moving the Endura and Delica to VG-10 Spyderco is setting itself apart from all of the other folder manufacturers once more, and raising the standard of quality at the entry-level. Great stuff!

Carlos...

What do you mean by sabre grind? Is that like the current blade shape/grind except with flat grind on what is currently hollow grind?

I sure would love to see a full flat grind (i.e. from the edge all the way to the spine, like the Military) in a blue delica, in VG-10...

You got it exactly.

Carlos, VG-10 definitely has better corrosion resistance than ATS-anything, but it's also more expensive. I just don't want to see Spyderco's entry-level knives price themselves out of the market.

Second that on price concerns. While Vg-10 is an excellent knife steel AUS-8 is a close second for
price concerns. The calypso jr lwt is an amazing little knife in Vg-10 and worth every penny I paid
for it. If spyderco can manage to produce more of thier line in Vg-10 they will add a new level of
performance to a high performance product.

Yes! I own or have owned 16 Spyderco knives, and never considered an Endura or Delica.

Now if they would produce a flat grind Delica with VG-10 steel and blue FRN (or stainless scales) I think I would have to pony up.

Sal could count on me buying 2 more clipits in VG 10. I really like the idea of a light knife with a metal clip and premium steel.
