VG-10 steel and bleach

I just purchased a masanobu sujihiki from korin and I was just wondering what the effect bleach will have on the steel. We dilute the bleach water to about 200 ppm but I am constantly wiping my knife down with a towel soaked in the bleach/water solution. Does anyone have any experience or knowledge on this matter?

From what I understand, 200 ppm is 1 tablespoon of bleach per gallon water.
I don't think that would even affect a 1095 blade that was in constant use, much less vg10.
'course, I could be wrong....

Low pH level cleaners will "stain" steel. Hydrochloric acid (pH of 0) is sometimes in tile/grout cleaners and toilet cleaner. I know because I was just looking up a way to use household cleaners to stain a blade on purpose. Bleach has a higher Ph level of about 13.

200ppm / 1 tablespoon per gallon is the standard 'sanitizing' solution for kitchen use.

I've been using such concentrations and higher on stainless steel kitchenware for years without adverse affect.

VG10 is a high quality stainless steel and would be unfazed as well.

And WELCOME to the forums!

I drink 200 ppm. Vg 10 should be fine. The handle scales? Well that's a different story.
