VG-10 to replace ATS-55?

I know that VG-10 is considered one of the better steels out there, but since the FRN Endura (and Delica??) is going to change to this steel (along with changing to a flat saber grind), I was wondering how much of a price difference this could create.

Because if the price will not change all that much, perhaps those more popular models using ATS-55 could shift to VG-10? IMO, ATS-55 has been very good in performance, but it seems there are wide variations in its ability to resist corrosion. I have yet to own a VG-10 blade, but I have heard besides its edge-taking/holding ability, that its ability to resist rust is superior to the ATS steels.

In fact, the variance in corrosion resistance is my only gripe about ATS-55. I haven't had one rust to pitting, but have noticed easy rusting on some, despite using preventives.

I don't know about all the production issues or costs, but you should really get yourself one VG-10 blade. I don't think it comes in second to any stainless steel in any category. It's that good.

Well, okay, there are some extremely corrosion-resistant stainlesses out there, but that's the only category.

I'm done now.

I have a Bob Lum Chinese in VG-10 and other than the finger prints that it picks up (on a very wide blade) I have had no problems. Now this is my first knife in VG-10 and I havn't had it too long, but it seems like some nice steel. Something similar to ATS-34 in hardness and crosion resistance, kind of a pain to sharpen, but nothing like BG42.

VG-10 rocks!

The Fallkniven A-1 and the SERE2K take a licking and keep on cutting without rusting. Wish I could say the same about my ATS-55 Matriacrh. As a matter of fact, if it knew I was in here talking about it and rusting in the same post, it would start developing specks under its clean coat of oil! :(:barf:

I hope VG-10 replaces ATS-55. I am a carbon steel man at heart, but VG-10 is one stainless steel I like.

VG-10 is a very underated steel and I would like to share Nimrods sentiments on ATS-55 steel:( .

Hi General. It's not underated, it's just new. VG10 was introduced to the industry with the Spyderco Moran.

So Sal, when do the VG-10 Enduras and delicas come out? Can you give us a month?

Yep and guess what was my first VG-10 knife? As well as first quality fixed blade;) . I bought one the month they came out, when they cost a little bit more than they do now! Worth every penney then and a bargain now. I will have to get a drop point model at some point:cool: !
