Just started carrying my Spydie Tenacious in place of my D4. Mostly just to change it up, but also felt like going with a slightly larger blade without jumping all the way to the E4.

Anyways, curious what I can expect from this blade as opposed to the D4 in VG-10 which I'm so used to (very easy to sharpen to hair edge razor but looses that quickly, great corrosion reisistance and the like). So far I got no complaints but I think the worst the Tenacious has seen is some envelopes and a few packages so far (not that any of my knives gets HARD use anymore)...

I like my tenacious, but I feel my original endura 4 vg-10 held an edge longer. Both seem pretty easy to sharpen to me.

Neither come anywhere near the ZDP-189 in my Endura4 FFG. Really, I think the whoel 8Cr13MoV is a darn great steal for cheap EDC. I have several blades with that steel and all of them seem to do well.

VG-10 holds an edge quite a bit better than 8Cr13MoV (also, 8Cr13MoV rusts quite readily, I know from personal experience). There's a reason for the huge price diff... But I love the Tenacious, and its big brother as well.

Thats not terribly suprising. Can anyone confirm what steel is used in the liners and related hardware of the Tenacious?

8CR13MoV is generally considered to be fairly similar to AUS8 so if you have any experience with that it should be fairly similar.

I have no idea what the hardware is but i'm sure it's pretty cheap. Theres been a few problems with the screws stripping very easily.

Everywhere I read about the knife it just says "skeletonized steel liners."

Sal has said that in Spyderco's salt spray tests 8Cr13MoV had somewhat lower corrosion resistance than AUS8. IIRC AUS8 and VG10 have similar corrosion resistance.

If you have no problem sharpening VG10, 8Cr13MoV should be even easier. It takes a very fine edge.

The edge retention of 8Cr13MoV is quite similar to that of AUS 8, both of those are a noticeable step down from VG10 in edge retention. I can tell the difference in every day usage.
