My pool uses these plastic chlorine cartridges. You must cut off the handle before inserting them. I cut it off with one of my PE Spyderhawks . Later I notice a stain on each side of the blade where I cut it off .

It does not seem to come off . Any thoughts or tips on removing it ?

Thanks

Chlorine is caustic and will eat metal in much the same manner as your skin. I would try to use a metal polish and try to get the stain out by rubbing. Rub in the direction of the grain of the metal finish to avoid scratches. Failing this go to the polishing wheel in your shop if you have one and simply buff it clean using a fine grit polish first, and use progressively coarser polishes for more stubborn stains. If the finish has been badly pitted you may even have to grind it off with a 600 grit belt or hand sand, again working with the grain of the knife blade finish. Hope that helps.

And maybe if you do that sort of thing regularly get a tasman salt (the H1 Hawkbill) as H1 has proven quite impervious to chlorine... and everything else for that matter.

Hi Lone Hunter.

It is the Chlorine that attacks the carbon and causes rust / corrosion.

In salt water, salt is sodium Chloride. Again, it is the chlorine that is attacking the carbon.
