How is the stain resistance of VG-10 comparable to H1? Would VG-10 withstand a saltwater environment, well or even admirably? I'm not expecting it NOT to oxidize but just curious as to how my VG-10 Delica would hold up at the beach, pool, etc. Thanks in advance.

I carried a VG-10 bladed SE Police that I bought right after SOI for two years while active duty. It was exposed to some pretty harsh field conditions. There were times where it was wet pretty much 24-7 for a week, or two with a combination of body sweat, and humidity (deep southern Georgia, summer humidity), and the knife never showed signs of rust. I only lightly oiled it on occasion when I thought to.

H1 will NOT rust period. It is meant to be used around water. That is why Spyderco calls the series that use H1, the Salt series.

How well the knife will hold up depends upon the specific usage and how you care for it, but it certainly will rust at some point in a marine environment. If you want to bring a knife to the beach, pool, etc., I'd recommend investing in a Salt 1. It's the same size as your Delica, but won't have any issues whatsoever in that sort of environment.

I know of a guy that did a yest of the salt 1. threw it in the pool and oops forgot about it. Three weeks later while in the garden he noticed something on the pools floor. Fished the knife out and wow! Nothing wrong! He felt bit guilty and reoiled it but he said there was nothing wrong.

enduraguy, what unit were you in? I was with 1st PLT MCSFCo Kings Bay, were you there by chance?

I know the H1 wouldn't rust but I'm curious as to how the VG-10 would hold up if you were to use it under LIKE conditions. Thanks for the replies, and keep em comin!

Absolutely. 100% agree.

VG10 would hold up well if , even minimally maintained . I have used various steels as Kyak and dive knives without a hitch .

I used my VG-10 Endura to peel an apple, was tired so left it uncleaned overnight, it developed some surface rust.

Marine environment- H1 no question. VG10 is great but I don't take it out fishing (offshore)
