What is VG-10?
If a knife maker is going to make a blade out of VG-10 does he just buy a bar of it or does he mix differant steels to make it?

You can find a lot of information by doing a search on this forum. VG-10 is a high-end stainless alloy developed for the Japanese horticultural industry, which has been adopted by a number of excellent cutlery firms including Spyderco and Fallkniven. It is not dissimilar to several superb stainless alloys such as ATS-34/BG-42, but includes cobalt, which is supposed to enhance the qualities of other alloying elements. Having tested it in field use, it compares favorably to very good carbon steels such as 50100 (Carbon V), but takes a little longer to sharpen, which is not really a problem with diamond hones. It is supposed to hold an edge better than ATS-34 according to Fallkniven and Spyderco, and is a very tough steel.

All i know is that my VG10 Endura cuts like nothing I've seen before ;)

Its good stuff. I dont think you can get it unless you get it from Japan though.

Just ask my trigger finger... it's ****ing sharp!!!

the high amounts of vanadium allows it to actually take a sharper edge then ats 34 and the such

VG-10 is very similar to the ATS-55 that Spyderco use to use for their knives. Their HRC is actually the same. The only added ingredients is phosphorus, to increase strenght and hardness, and vanadium, to increase strength, wear resistance and toughness. Also, some small differences in carbon, chrome...etc.

I just got back from a sea kayaking trip where I wore an arclite neck knife in D2 steel and had a Fallkniven F2 in VG10 in a bag in the cockpit. Both were soaked in salt water in no time (this was in Australia in big water). The D2 is very rust spotted and will need a good clean, the VG10 looks like it never even got wet. Impressive.

Had a friend (J.P holmes )make me a small hunter in 10V.This is "onemeancuttin" machine.
Sorry about brainfart.It's 10V not VG 10.
