Any body know a vendor who can supply VG-10 flat bars?
By the by. This is my first post as a new member. I don't know the local do's and do-not's for this forum and I don't want to step on any toes. So, if sharing suppliers is a taboo, just say so.
Thanx;

Welcome to Shoptalk, GHDerby!

Nah, no problem whatsoever sharing suppliers. It's one of the ways we help each other around here.

Problem is, VG10 is scarce, and we don't know of a source, I don't think. The question comes up fairly often and I haven't seen anyone mention a supplier.

Try Crucible CPM 154. Works just as well if not better.

VG10 is Japanese, may be kinda hard to get over here in flat stock.

I second the CPM 154 . If you are making stainless cutlery it is excellent. You can get it from suppliers like Pop's,

and directly from Crucible.Kerrie Kengor is their rep.

I buy it in sheet in several thicknesses, but they will shear it in sheet width bars (about 24" long) from the sheet for you,if you like to start with a specific size bar stock. Last batch I got was $15-17/pound

Thanx for the imput guys. I was looking at VG-10 for its lack of stainless qualities. it acts as much like HC as it does SS. Generaly, I only work with HC, but tried VG-10 once and liked it. I want to give it another go.
