we are a small knife maker that wants to start using a tumbler to do our polishing. Can anyone help us with a manufacturer, medium suggestions and process? we were looking at the vibra king but couldn't work through the right size, wet or dry, medium and options. We typically use S30V / 154cm / D2 with blank sizes of 10" or smaller.

You can go cheap, and get a cartridge case tumbler. I like my big Lyman for the money.

The best tumblers I know of are Thumlers Tumblers. I picked up an Ultra-Vibe 18, and now I know why they are so frickin expensive.

I've seen many cartridge case tumblers work. The cases and media swirl around the center. Thumlers are totally different. The content doesn't swirl around, somehow it all continuously flows up the perimeter and down the center.

It just works better and faster, and the bowl is much larger.

I haven't tumbled any blades yet, so I can't tell you with certainty how differently they work on blades, but I feel pretty confident that I will only be using the Thumlers.

Hey Grizz,

Would you please give us a report and some pics. after you have done a few knives. I have been thinking about tumbling hunters and skinners. Thanks

Tim

Sure thing, Tim.

I need to get some stone media, but I do have some S35VN blades I need to do now.

I've heard guys use broken tile for media, so I'll try that first, but I am looking forward to comparing the two tumblers.
