I never, ever use the can opener on a Vic, so I decided to try a little experiment, the results of which are obvious. So, what is its purpose in life now? If you will note, I have 2 of the 3 sides of the "triangle" sharpened and a great little point on it - it makes a pretty good little "ripper" and works well on the dreaded bubble packaging that's so prevalent.

My verdict? I probably won't do it to my alox Soldier, and I definitely won't do it to my new blue Farmer! (That just wouldn't be right ;))!

Do I regret doing it to my 111mm Soldier? Nah - it was an experiment after all, and I can't help but use this "ripper" more than the can opener.

(The pic is not good, but I DID NOT modify the screwdriver on the end - THAT I use a lot)!

It's funny you mention mods to SAKs. I was just thinking how awesome it would be if the Vic's I have with the small blade were available with that small blade serratted... That would be a useful little bugger don't ya think? P/S the screwdriver mod is way cool!!!;)

Could be very useful, depending on your needs and whatever else you carry! Heck, try putting your own serrations on it! That's yet another thing that's great about SAK's - they're so inexpensive that you (I, at least) don't mind tweaking them a little - if ya screw it up or don't like it, you can always get another brand new one!

Thanks for the comment on the mod, too. (If I would use the can opener even once a year I would have left it alone).

I've got a Vic Electrician Plus on the way - don't think I'll have to mod that at all - looks like it will be my perfect EDC!!! ;)

Indeed, it would be nice to have SAK's with serrations on the small blade. Such a blade would be very useful to cut card board and ropes.

The Electrician Plus is great. The sheep foot electrician blade is a nice extra blade and quite strong, due to its size and shape.
